In Hero's Corner we have 3 pygmy goats called Bracken, Dylan, and baby Basil. They are all extremely friendly and love their heads to be rubbed. There are two Kune Kune pigs - brother and sister called Kiwi and Apple - often seen rolling on their backs for their bellies to be rubbed. Also there are four alpacas called Noah, Orlando, Damien and Gaheris. They are very timid but, if you are patient, will come close enough to be touched. The two Silkie chickens are called Coco and Muffin. They have black feathers and only those who know them well can tell them apart. They share their pen with Clyde, the handsome golden Brahma cockerel. The duck pond is home to 2 Muscovies, 2 Semale Cyuga, 2 Saxonies and 1 Indian Runner, who are all settled and laying eggs.

Between the various houses and pens are sensory flower beds which the garden team have planted out and continue to nurture.

Hero's Corner

A place of opportunity, purpose built to help residents live independently.

Stallcombe house

Hero's Corner was officially opened in June 2008. It is a place where anyone can go to relax to spend time with the animals and birds. But more than that it is a place where people can be 'hands on' with small friendly animals.

Hero's Corner has added more variety to our work based experiences at Stallcombe. All the animals and birds need to be fed, watered and mucked out every day and it is good to see different people taking on different tasks and responsibilities. Of course the muck goes straight to our own compost bays for recycling.

The different birds are too many to name individually, but the different species are budgerigars, cockatiels and zebra finches which are housed in the centrepiece aviary.
