Information

Meals & Food

Stallcombe House promotes a healthy whole food diet. Wherever possible fresh local and organic produce is used and is supplemented by fresh organic vegetables and fruit from our own garden. No processed foods are used and additional sugar and salt are not available. Stimulants such as coffee and tea containing caffeine are not provided; caffeine free coffee and tea are available.

If residents choose, they can purchase tea and coffee and sugar which can be used in their own rooms.

Special diets are catered for and there are always at least two choices for every meal.

The Kitchens

All the meals are prepared in the main kitchen by our chef. Residents are encouraged to help in the preparation of meals and kitchen duties are a regular and popular part of work schedules. There are 3 other kitchens and tea and coffee facilities are freely available in each. Residents also have one-to-one cooking sessions with their support workers.

Laundry Facilities

All residents are encouraged to do their personal laundry with their support workers weekly. This includes washing, drying and ironing clothing. Other laundry is done by our ‘laundry lady’ in the home's own facility.

Baths & Showers

There are five bathrooms available to residents. We have 15 rooms with en-suite facilities. All rooms have their own washing facilities. (All the baths and sinks are thermostatically controlled at the taps).

Television

There is one television lounge where residents can sit together or residents can purchase their own TV as each bedroom has its own aerial point. Other ‘quiet’ rooms are available for reading, jigsaws and other pastimes.

Telephone

A public call box is provided in the main courtyard and, if required, a member of staff will assist residents in making calls. In the evening and at weekends incoming calls can be accepted on the main telephone system.

Mail

Personal mail is distributed daily as soon as possible after delivery. Stamps can be purchased and letters posted at the main office if required.

Personal Allowances

Each resident has a current account administered by the nominated Appointee. Spending/shopping money is given by request. Most residents have savings accounts. Interested parties may examine individual accounts. All accounts are audited annually.

GPs/Primary Health Care Teams

Our G.P. is in the village of Woodbury, two miles away, and attends all our residents. The G.P. also attends reviews whenever possible. The local resource team is based in Exmouth and we have support from a physiotherapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, speech and language therapist and occupational therapist plus care managers and link managers.

Dentists/Opticians/Chiropodists

Our dentist is based locally and we are also able to call on domiciliary visits when necessary. Residents normally attend a local optician in Exmouth and the chiropodist visits the home twice every year. Residents who need this service more often visit the local chiropodist in Exmouth.

Hairdressing

All residents go to the hairdresser of their choice in Exmouth.

Shopping Opportunities

There are regular shopping trips to Exmouth, accompanied and unaccompanied.

Financial & Legal Advice

Residents' affairs are generally handled by their family/care managers/Stallcombe management.

The Payment of Fees

Fees are paid by DSS and the responsible Social services.

Holidays

All residents have a choice of annual holidays including trips abroad, adventure holidays and 'just relaxing' holidays for the less active.

Complaints

If a resident has a complaint which they feel cannot be dealt with by their support worker, or the Management team, they can contact the responsible Commission for Social Care Inspection Officer direct. All residents have the name, address and telephone number of the Officer responsible for Stallcombe.
