Work therapy is centred around our free-range egg enterprise; we have up to 450 hens which run freely over an area of two acres. The birds are housed in three specially designed sheds where they perch at night. The residents are actively involved in egg collecting, grading, boxing and labelling. The culmination of this is the highlight of the week - we sell our eggs to local shops and also operate a door to door delivery egg round, giving the residents the opportunity to meet the people living in the area.
We have recently developed the new Small Animal Corner which provides an additional facility on the farm, giving opportunities for the residents to become involved in the day to day care of a range of different animals.
The Farm
Enabling residents to learn skills and meet people in the area.
The farm comprises of 42 acres of grassland, divided into 11 fields. The land is mainly used for grazing horses, ponies and, on occasions, donkeys.
To the western end of the farm there is a Victorian pond which we are developing as a nature reserve. Future additions such as the construction of a bird hide and board walk will further enhance this area and make it more accessible for people to relax and enjoy the wildlife.
Horse riding is now available again with Tallis and Poppy residing on the farm. Residents also have the opportunity to be involved in the daily management of the horses which is proving to be a very popular part of the working day.
